What are Eating Disorders? 

Eating disorders can present differently from person to person. No matter how they manifest, people struggling with eating disorders and disordered eating all deserve help. Here are the ways eating disorders can present. 

Pica: Eating nonnutritive, nonfood substances

Rumination: Regurgitation of food. Re-chewing, spitting foods out.

Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder: lack of interest in eating or avoidance of foods leading nutitional deficiency or significant weight changes

​

Anorexia: Restriction of energy needs leading to significantly low weight, fears of gaining weight, body image disturbance 

​

Binge-Eating Disorder: Recurrent binge eating episodes, feeling a lack of control. 

​

Bulimia: Eating a large portion of food during a distrete amount of time with inappropriate compensatory measures to prevent weight gain (e.g., self-induced vomiting, over-exercise, or periods of restriction.

Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED): Eating disorders that do not fit into the categories listed above including “Atypical” anorexia, lower frequency/duration of bulimia and binge-eating symptoms, purging disorder, night eating syndrome.

We approach our clients as individuals and incorporate evidence based therapeutic techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Adlerian Psychology, Feminist Theory, Humanistic and Existential Psychology, and Family Systems theory. We are aligned with the Health at Every Size (HAES) philosophy and believe that all humans, in all bodies, are deserving of compassion and dignity.

About HumanKind

HumanKind Psych is paneled as an in-network provider for the following insurance plans:

  • Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Illinois (PPO Plans and Blue Choice Plans)

  • Cigna PPO

If we are not in-network with your insurance plan, you may see us as an out-of-network provider and submit a bill to your insurance company. They may reimburse you. 

 

Our out-of-pocket fees are as follows: 

Initial Intake Session (60-75 minutes) - $185

Therapy Session (50 minutes) - $160

​

We also reserve select spots on our caseloads for sliding-scale arrangements based on financial need. HumanKind Psych offers specialized online support for individuals facing eating disorder challenges, ensuring that they receive the tailored care they need.
